2.2 The nature of sociology
Comte not only thinks sociology is a science, but also the first science, is the "queen of science". Comte regarded sociology as "social physics", indicating that he believed it was entirely possible to establish a "natural science of society".
In his view, the scientific nature of sociology is as scientific and accurate as the natural science. American sociologist J.H. Turner believed that sociological research should be an objective and value-neutral scientific activity like natural science. Scholars who hold this unified view of science believe that if sociology is to become a science, it must start from the empirical facts in social research, all theories, propositions and concepts must be able to withstand the test of facts, and in the process of research, facts and values must be distinguished, so that sociology becomes more mature and closer to the exact science of natural science.
Under the guidance of this understanding, the universality of sociological knowledge is considered to be natural. Even if it has not reached this level, as long as the persistent efforts, we will eventually get the universal explanation of society, and finally grasp the law of social phenomena.
